Freezes happen when NPC can't figure navigation to the player. So staying in inaccessible places will always give you micro-freezes, in exception of some scripted places like base's roof where NPCs programmed to walk in circles.

To prevent freezes, make your way to empty open area (road or something).

No, hash codes are exactly as much symbols as you get them. There might be another thing that you might mistake symbols or letters. Be aware that these are very similar: 1/l  o/0 u/v  
You can type these in the console in game to get to know how exactly each character looks so you won't misplace them. Also be aware that hash codes contain only numbers and lowercase letters - if you see 0 it's exactly zero.

That only means they haven't found anything interesting on the drive. They doesn't mean literally empty drives.
